Institute's historyThe Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science was founded in 2001 in the town of Banská Bystrica. It is a joint institution of Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) and the Faculty of Natural Science of Matej Bel University (UMB) and its founding follows aims of a cooperation agreement signed by SAS and UMB. The institute's main task is to pursue research in areas of mathematics and computer science. Other tasks include education of graduate students, support of undergraduate teaching at UMB and research collaboration with UMB math department. We cooperate with other departments of Slovak Universities, as well, for example with the Department of Quantitative Methods of Faculty of Finance, the Department of Applied Informatics of Faculty of Economics and with the Department of Mathematics of Pedagogic Faculty UMB.
