The workshop will be sixth in the series of GEMS workshops started in
1994. Since 1997, it has been held every four years. For over fifteen
years, the combinatorial community interested in various aspects of
graphs embedded on surfaces has been meeting every year somewhere on
the Earth. Timings and places have been stabilised, with a period of
four years, in Slovenia (years congruent to 3 mod 4), New Zealand (0
mod 4), Slovakia (1 mod 4), and other places that have varied from
Arizona (USA), through Portugal, to Mexico (2 mod 4)
Our aim is to bring together people interested in various aspects of
graphs embedded on surfaces. The programme will consist of lectures by
invited speakers and short talks by participants. Contributed talks
should be related to one or more of the following topics:
- Embeddings of graphs in surfaces
- Symmetrical embeddings, regular maps
- Group actions on graphs
- Combinatorial properties of embedded graphs
- Representativity and graph minors
- Convex polytopes and polytopal graphs
- Dessins d'enfants
- Map enumeration
The workshop will be held
15th-19th July 2013 in the
Congress
Centre Smolenice, at the
Smolenice
Castle, not far from Bratislava, and will be a part of several
scientific events celebrating the first important international
conference on graph theory, which took place at the Smolenice Castle
fifty years ago.
